Poetry Corner

Haiku poetry (word pictures)
Japanese origin. Originally the opening section of much longer poems. 3 lines and 17 syllables. first line 5 syllables, second line 7 syllables, third line 5 syllables. Haiku poems frequently include a reference to a season of the year.
 
the hunt
coolness fills the air
shadows streak across the land
the fox begins to stir
Jesus Sky
shortly after dawn,
clouds blotting out the sky -
streaming shafts of light
Great Barrier Reef
warm summer breeze,
the moon begins its last phase -
coral start to spawn
dusk
the red sky above,
the winding purple river,
the black earth below
wind
gray clouds streaking by,
blue waves launching green/white spray -
the birds do not fly
winter
the ground is frozen,
midnight snow is drifting down ,
cold air stings my lungs
