When San Francisco gave birth to SantaCon (Santarchy) in 1994, the mass of Santa-clad revelers represented a satirical jab at the commercialism of Christmas. Since then, the festival has grown into an international event, with Santas-only pub crawls taking place in 350 different cities worldwide.
On that Saturday, SantaCon took over Union Square in San Francisco to celebrate its 21st birthday with another year of holiday mayhem. All the suited up Santas at this year’s event were encouraged to bring a new toy to donate to kids in need.
